Inconvenient Truth

You may have heard of this film, it's a documentary style film by Algore all about Climate Change.
It not only looks at the fact that developing countries and poorer nations will suffer from Climate Change, but that we will too. Not only will be Bangladesh flooded, so will New York, not only New York, but apparently Norwich too!
I missed it when it was at the cinema, but it's due on DVD 21st Nov - it may well change the way you live. There are an estimated 25 million enviromental regugees now! - that number will increase.
THE POOR ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CONTRIBUTE THE LEAST BUT SUFFER THE MOST

I like that the film is called Inconvenient Truth, because it's a pain catching pulic transport and not driving, recyling is an effort, thinking about holidays and not flying, changing lightbulbs and remebering to turn everything off, it's all new habits that are effortsome, and are inconvient to me.
There's lots of info about:

You may have known there was a rally in Trafalgar Square this Sat (unfortunately i was in Wales working) but here's some stories if you're interested:

I'm not expecting all those links will be read but thought i'd put them on incase anyone was super keen.
I knew hardly anything about the impact of Climate Change before working for Tearfund (granted i'm not the most up-to-date with current affairs!) but this has been one amoung many things that i've been learning.
I feel like i'm on a big learning curve, that is all about my faith, my actions, my values and my beliefs. And that loving my neighbour and caring for the poor means more than buying a big issue and a feeling of compassion when I walk past a homeless person.
DEAR CHILDREN, LET US NOT LOVE WITH WORDS OR TONGUE BUT WITH ACTIONS AND IN TRUTH. (1 John 3:18)
Like I said i feel at the beginging of a road and don't yet know what it looks like ahead. I also feel like there is so much more i could say, but this is long and I only have simple little actions to support my thoughts, I'm hoping for me it's a changing time.
Have a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.

serious shit all this eh?
I plan on seeing it straight away...its hard to know what to do with such a big problem...
what kinds of things do you think we need change? what's hit you most about these issues? how is your faith effected?
Hey Ki,I can't get on to your blog properly, can only see half your screen! But wanted to say Hi, see how you are and to say I emailed you on your hotmail account, not sure if you got it or are still using that account. Much love to you Kxx
It's like 'The Day After Tomorrow', only REAL. Loved the voice over and dramatic music towards the end. Trust the Americans.
I want to know more about your learning curve and how it has affected your faith. Glad to hear that your job brought you to the wonderful land of Wales.
Hey Ki, just watched the trailer. It does look like it wold be good to watch. It's slightly ironic that america have brought out the film though! I think in terms of being environmentally friendly we are ahead in England, not to say we need to do a lot more. But just from what I've experienced out here so far, to be environmetally friendly doesn't even cross people minds. Everyone just bungs there clothes in the tumble dyer, they didn't even know how to question me as to why I hang things up, I had to tell them. Everyday here at least 100 people are having 3 meals a day, and we are eating of plastic plates that go straight in to the bin, Me and my fellow Swede started a campaign, use the same knife and fork until it breaks, they just laughed at us!!
I definately think your right, action, just being here, it's made me realise that we often just get on with our lives and try and do our bit, but really it should all be about just getting out there and being active.
"my name's kiera and I write posts and then leave them hanging......"
I heard some really bad reviews of it- that its too much like a powerpoint presentation which makes it hard to watch, and that he doesnt really give any practical advice on how we can change things, just acts like the profit of doom. I'd still like to see it though.
Maybe it's part of America's PR attempt to look like theyre really concerned about the world and hope everyone forgets about Kyoto.
interesting points there Cat. i like being down on american things.
I was watching bbc parliment the other day (just gone full screen!) and there was a debate on climate change issues after the queeens speech. and they were making loads of good points about how there's little being done about what affects global warming is having now, but far too much focus on carbon emissons.
no one is telling people loud enough. theres not enough money to sort the problem out, and if we continue to ignore these issues there simply wont be enough funds to solve the huge flooding, etc....problems, later on when they are 10000000000000000x worse!!!!
for example. flood defences in this country are out of date. our costal towns and cities are screwed! it'll cost £35m just to fix hull's (ish).
and the budget for environment things is only £400m odd in this country.
also interesting fact. even if say hull did defend itself, apparantly the problem just moves down the coast to another town. they were saying in parliment that the only way to keep the UK safe is to put flood defenses around the whole of the UK. and no government would commit such funds till its too late.
rather the government(s) think emmissons is the answer and will stop global warming. but even if the globe meets its targets, and cut back on consumption etc. its sea levels are still expected to rise due to damage so far.
national trust say sea levels have risen in this country by 10cm since 1990. that is very worrying! and I think it was predicted in parliment, that best case scenario we should expect a 1m rise.
invest now in renewables and buy a house inland.
Plus there's all those bloody militant hippies willing to nuke London's flood defenses in the name of a secret unpublished report.... oh wait, that was last weeks spooks.
Great episode. Did you see it Scrivner? I hope you won't consider doing anything like that in the future.
not into spooks. i stick to river cottage and neighbours.
oh and a good film.
although that does sound like an interesting project....
But ive always lived by the sea! Inland just doesnt cut it. Its all about moving to Vancouver- right on the coast but the city's up a massive hill. My hometown of southend, however, will be mostly underwater. But who's gonna miss Canvey Island really?
